Christmas Cheer Comes Early to Whitefield School

Christmas came early to Whitefield School as we announced the winner of our Christmas Card Competition which was run in partnership with disability equality charity, Scope.

During the summer term, all Whitefield School pupils were asked to draw on their creative talents to design a festive card which would be sold in some of Scope’s charity shops.  Over 200 pupils submitted entries which were then considered by a panel of judges.  The judges were very impressed by the bright and colourful designs and, after much deliberation, chose Haris Bin Hassan as the winner.

Haris had used his fingers to paint a wonderfully colourful Christmas tree.  His design has now been made into a card and will go on sale very shortly online and in selected Scope charity shops in and near to London.  Haris received a pack of cards and a framed print of his design. Scope has also donated a voucher to his class to use in the online shop.

Rachel Rai, Principal of Whitefield School, said:

“Participating in the Christmas card competition with Scope has been a wonderful opportunity for our pupils.  They have really enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit and using their creativity to produce some bright, colourful and festive designs.

“We can’t wait to see Haris’ winning design in the shops and we’ll certainly be doing all we can to promote it amongst our school community.

“As a school, we are proud to support Scope which does such vital work helping people with SEND.  We hope to build on this partnership in the coming years.”

Vivian Nutt, Head of Customer Proposition at disability equality charity Scope said:

“At Scope, we put disabled people at the heart of everything we do. We had such a great time creating this project with this fantastic school and seeing the pupils’ wonderful designs. The judging was incredibly hard, knowing how much care and effort every pupil put into their art.

“However, we can only have one design for this year’s community Christmas card and after a lot of deliberation, we announced Haris Bin Hassan as the winner. We all agreed he has an amazing talent and an eye for colour. Haris’ Christmas tree really stood out as a stunning, stand-alone work of art that put us all in the festive spirit, so it was perfect for our community card.

“All profits raised from the sale will help Scope to offer vital support services for disabled people and their families at a time when they desperately need our help, and to campaign relentlessly for disability equality.”
